They really, really think they're far superior to Subway, and their prices reflect that.
I will grant that their sandwiches are a little heartier than Subway's are, but I have a few issues with Quizno's:
I prefer my sandwiches to be untoasted. I have made this specific request at three different locations in Northern California. Each time, I watched helplessly as my virgin sandwich was yanked down the little conveyor belt of toastiness. The employees are apparently unable to stop the machine or reach in to rescue a sandwich before it gets completely crispimeltified, but each time they helpfully offered to throw out the sandwich and start over. Uh, no thanks. I think my preferences are valuable enough to be honored by a "sandwich architect", but they are not strong enough to make me want to waste unspoiled food.
Quizno's is just a little too happy to waste food in general. Rather than giving you either a full or half loaf of bun, they always cut off the ends (at least two inches of bread on each side) and toss them in the trash. This may be enough to make me stop going to Quizno's.
OK, this seals the deal: their cookies taste like crap. Subway actually bakes their cookies daily on-site; Quizno's cookies are hermetically sealed in plastic with a suspiciously distant expiration date.
